Inside your wardrobe: Laura Ford

Bristol based blogger Laura Ford shares her fashion secrets with MyStreetChic.com student fashion ambassador Georgina Puddephatt.

Laura's looks

Here at MyStreetChic.com we're all about local style and love hearing about what inspires real life fashionistas. This week we spoke to Laura Ford, a fashion blogger from Bristol (check out her blog at www.only-halfdressed.blogspot.com), who loves mixing and matching high street items and has an unhealthy obsession with shoes.

Q: What are your favourite fashion brands and why?
If you'd have asked me a year ago I'd have said Topshop but recently I've been thinking that its stuff is way too overpriced, especially since New Look has upped its game. Right now my favourites are River Island and New Look.

Q: Who is your celebrity style icon and why?
I'm not really a Harry Potter fan, but Emma Watson has got to be given credit for her stunning looks on and off the red carpet. I think in recent years she has really come into her own.

Q: What are your fashion loves and hates?
Right now I absolutely love the trousers that have come out for A/W 2011, especially the cropped cord ones - I've already brought two pairs! As for my fashion hates, I can't stand cropped leggings and ankle boots; leggings and boots yes, but not cropped ones that leave the bit between the top of your boots and bottom of the leggings out on show! Just get some full length leggings, people!

Q: Where/what do you get your style inspiration from?
My style inspiration mostly comes from blogging. I absolutely love seeing how different people style the same item and getting more ideas of how to wear certain pieces. Also, blogs are great for finding out where you can bag some bargains.

Q: What are your favourite looks for this season?
As we're currently between seasons, I'll pick out one for each. This summer I absolutely loved high waisted vintage looking really short shorts; they're so great for showing off your legs and can also be worn with tights when it gets cooler. For the autumn, I love the cropped cord trousers as they're so comfy and easy to wear. You can get your brogues out with them and they're perfect for colour blocking.

Q: If your house was on fire and you could only save one item of clothing, what would it be?
Just one item? Yikes. It would probably be a pair of shoes, most probably my brogues because I end up wearing them with almost any outfit!

Q: What's been your biggest fashion disaster?
I have been known to head to the corner shop in leggings and a top that really isn't long enough to be worn with leggings - the ultimate fashion no-no, according to MyStreetChic.com.

Q: What is the first thing you look at in someone else's outfit?
Shoes! Most definitely the shoes, sometimes I don't even take notice of what else they're wearing. Shoes are just my 'thing', I own a ridiculous amount of them and therefore my eyes seem to always be on the hunt for more pairs.

Gina Dyer says:
I laughed at the part about wearing leggings that are too short. It's so true! Also, I liked Laura's layouts of all her outfits. Wouldn't it be cool if we could take a photo of what we've worn each day of the year and then put all the outfits into one big collage like this? I think I'd have a few fashion disaster days lurking in my collage though!

I agree with so many parts of this, especially the shoes, I'm a shoe girl too! x
